Australian Sue Wooster has powered into the Round of 32 at the US Senior Women’s Amateur Championship.

After qualifying with ease courtesy of stroke play rounds of 75 and 76 at the Waverley Country Club in Portland, Oregon, the seventh-seeded Victorian wasted no time in asserting her match play authority today.

Wooster, 55, a member at The National south-east of Melbourne, took down Louisiana’s Julie Harrison 5&4 in the round of 64 to continue her fine form in North America.

She will next face Georgia’s Brenda Pictor, the 39th seed who was a 3&2 winner today.

Wooster, who recently became the first international player to win the Canadian Women’s Senior Championship, was never seriously threatened.

Harrison opened nervously with a pair of double-bogeys and after the fifth hole, Wooster was already 4-up.

And despite winning a couple of holes with birdies, Harrison’s plight was summed up when she lost the long ninth hole to Wooster despite the Australian suffering a double-bogey seven.

Aside from that blemish, the reigning Australian Mid-Amateur champ was only one over the card when the pair shook hands on the 14th green, impressively dropping two birdies of her own.
